There are three types of burns:

The first-degree burns and the second-degree burns (up to some extent) can be treated at home. Some of the ways to treat them are:
- Expose the burnt area under cool running water. It reduces swelling.
- Make use of antiseptic sprays, ointments, or any other medications required and apply them to the burnt area. It helps soothe the burns.
- You should apply some sort of mild pressure to burn. Also, you should try and minimize any sort of external contact to the pain. Use a bandage or a cloth to cover it up.
- If the pain becomes too much, take painkillers like Acetaminophen, or Ibuprofen.
Another way of getting yourself hurt is by getting minor cuts or scrapes. In that case, the things you can do are:
- Get yourself cleaned up, especially your hands. You cannot let any bacteria or germs get into the wound. You probably will be using your hands for further steps, so, clean them properly.
- Stop the bleeding by applying mild pressure. Be sure of not applying too much pressure. That may lead to more blood pressure. Use a clean cloth or a gauze pad. Keep applying pressure for a few minutes.
- Clean the wound. Once the bleeding stops, clean the wound by exposing it to cool running water and apply some soap around the wound. Be sure to not get the soap on the wound, because it will burn and irritate your skin.
Treating bites and stings from animals is a lot of work. Most people fail in doing it properly because they are never prepared for it. Everyone thinks that is least likely to happen and tend to ignore it. Some of the steps that you should follow, in case, if something like that happens are:
- DO NOT SCRATCH. It might be very irritating and that is why most people just try to scratch it off. It will not work.
- You should first try and stop the bleeding with a piece of cloth or a bandage.
- After that, clean the would with some water and apply some soap carefully.
- Cover it up with another piece of cloth or a bandage.
You should be careful to recognize when to go to a doctor when you have got an animal bite. For instance, if some unfamiliar animal bit you, like, a bat, or a raccoon, or a skunk, you probably need a vaccine or a tetanus shot.
